Palembang Sumatra Emerald (2021, Agarwood Indonesia)

Image
P ALEMBANG S UMATRA E MERALD (2021) by  Agarwood Indonesia   is distilled from wild Sumatran incense grade chips from  Palembang area  with zero soaking. I wore it  5 times since buying it about 3 weeks ago. Palembang Sumatra Emerald (2021) From the bottle ,  i t is very  camphoric,  spicy, intensely green, and  grassy . I also get   a hint of ambergris-laced  of green leathery quality . Initially, on skin, it is  quite camphorous, terpenic (slightly), bitter and foresty green, spicy, and piquant .   I t hen get hints of soft hay with a touch of dry museli-like smell. In case someone is wondering, it is not yeasty. I do not get anything scatological .   There is also angelica root, ambrette seed absolute, green tea, neroli, watercress (that peppery smell when we start biting), freshly cut/crushed coriander leaves/stems, and many more. I need to spend more time . After 10 minutes : as soon as the sharp green t...

Malik Al Taif (2018): A Rose Ride on A Bender

Image
A Mini Review Malik Al Taif (2018) by Russian Adam (of Areej Le Dore ) is an olfactive orchestra of rose (Taif and Indian), oud and deer musk. The scent progression on skin is far more complex than on clothes than I expected. It starts off with a very spicy and sparkly rose. Few months ago, whilst it was slightly windy in the mosque, I could clearly smell deer musk - very similar to a deer musk grain maceration in sandalwood that I made, but it is lot deeper and less sharp er - followed by some resinous and incensy facets of Indian oud. The oud on me is always dignified, never too loud. One can make MAT loud by wearing 3-4 sprays though! The oud part was a revelation to me - I first thought that someone else was wearing the oud! In later stages, rose becomes almost like a dry down of rose absolutes with some rose lokum like facets - sweeter and ambery. I cannot yet detect Cambodian oud in it - mainly because I have very little experience with ouds of that region, and/or, it is used i...

Malacca Oud Chips (Al Hashimi, 2017) Review

Image
Wild Malaccan Oud Chips (Al Hashimi, 2017) These  Aquilaria malaccensis  chips smell divine even at room temperature - spicy, hint of orange peel, earthy, slightly petrichorish (if there is such word), and most importantly woody (hinting towards a wonderful incense note). I have yet put these fragrant nuggets on to the burner as I prefer colder weather to 'optimise' my enjoyment. There is a  labdanum type sweetness  in it too. Update: I just burned a tiny (rice grain) amount at low temperature (around 9-10 volts range) as I simply could not resist anymore! The initial  hay ,  woody  and  earthy  notes' combination, followed by the  incensy menthol  is superb. I wish there was an attar with that aroma  only . It then starts spilling out its spice notes, more specifically  cinnamon  and  cardamom  and a bit of  orange peel  in the distance. The orange peel thingy is quite distant. I wa...
